So I started this little weight challenge with the diva this week. I weighed in at 198lbs and that is a little unsettling to me since I last weighed that amount a few months ago. The fact that I have not lost or gained a single pound in months is a tad bit confusing. As much as I eat and due to the diva’s slam dunk cooking I thought I had crossed the 200 pound plateau a few months back but I didn’t, yay!!!
Now on to the bad part. I also thought that dieting meant eating crap that had no flavor or looked like rubber meat. And from past experiences, it meant drinking gross shakes, pooping for 30 minutes trying to get 1 turd out, or being so strung out on ephedrine that I passed out after the high was over.
I am not saying I am going to be some sort of tree hugger. I will make a conscious effort to eat better and healthier and keep to my limited budget. So before I go out and change out my food, buy boxed foods, signup for weight watchers, or chug on a gross can of slim fast; I thought I would do a little research. I will never do Atkins because bread is the one food that I cannot live without. And that low-carb food at the grocery store taste like doo-doo on a stick. If there ever was a fad that needed to go out, it is that one. Now the whole Mediterranean diet is the craze. I’m sorry but I can’t do spices either. If it’s spicy going in, it is like fire coming out, the roids just can’t take it.
I have watched all of the slaughterhouse videos and I still eat meat. It’s not that I don’t know that it’s gross, but I know that during a hemorrhoid flair up, if I was straight vegan, I would die like Elvis, pushing a load out, due to the fact that vegetarians boo-boo is hard as bricks. It’s like passing a baby through your poop shooter with no lube. Sorry peeps, if that’s your thing, have fun with it. I can’t do that either.
During my search, I did gathered that diet food doesn’t need to be gross. Some of the foods are a little cardboardish, so I would never even sniff tofu, definitely not willingly taste it. One of the best looking things that I saw was an oriental salad. It had nuts and a fruit on it and it was all organic. Organic to me meant expensive AND cardboard. So instead of me buying the salad, I looked up the ingredients and I decided to make my own salad from scratch. This way, if it tasted like crap, I would only have myself to blame.
Here is my result:
I added spinach leaves to an already bagged organic salad. I also added sunflower seeds, grapes, oranges and topped it off with Raspberry Vinaigrette. Man it was good. I still had my moment of weakness though; I ate the salad with an entire sack of saltines and washed it down with a glass of Sugarfree Apple Juice and a bottle of water. Yes it was good, no it was not filling…I ate 2 Strawberry Shortcake Ice cream bars when I was finished. Lol. Bye for now.
Beanie having fun with a Lollipop…the real one.
Continuing my rant about radio, here is exhibit B why It makes me sick…
The influence of radio can not be understated. With the repetition of some songs on the radio, i would be hard pressed to find someone who does not fall victim to the radio ploy. I am, however, not so happy when that victim is my son.
A few days ago, I noticed that P-nut was singing more. First it was the ABC’s, songs from Disney Movies that he was watching and now it’s Lollipop by Lil’ Wayne.
When I am riding with the boys, waiting for the Braves game to come on the radio, I channel flip. When I get tired of flipping, I let it sit. BAD IDEA!!! Nothing is more embarrassing and yet subtly cute that hearing your 3 yr old sing a song about oral sex. The cute part, of course is that he knows the words and he sings them with expressions. The embarrassing part, is a given, it’s a song about licking a lollipop, and this lollipop has some cream filling…
I know it’s my fault for exposing my kids to the crap, and at the age of 3, it can’t do much harm can it? Listening to songs that degrade and glorify a sexual act, does it influence individuals? It’s not like this is the 80’s and NWA is insighting a riot with “F— The Police”. We are living in a new age and music has come full circle and we are not back into a party stage. Am I a bad parent for not correcting him while he is singing? Am I wrong for just saying that he is only 3 and it’s harmless?
I need some help on this one people…I really don’t know. Questions, comments, concerns?
So I did the same video search that I did for phatfffat and I found probably the greatest voice ever. This guy is unsigned as of today and he quite possibly could be one of the greatest unsigned talents in THE WORLD.
Here is the video that sent me to his youtube:
Now let me dissect that 53 seconds of video first. Those are pure soulful vocals that are equaled by a very select few in the music industry today. This guy has skills. He has that soulful and heartfelt depth to his voice that Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendegrass, and many many other CLASSIC SOUL singers had. He also has some new age skills and he can also play.
Check this out:
I am not saying that he is the second coming of Stevie Wonder, I am saying that he is in a class of an elite few singers that not only have the skills to play, but can also sing at a high level. He plays in almost all of his videos. Here are my too songs, one is a cover from Amy Winehouse “Back to Black” and the other is an original song “True Friends”. I also like his cover of Chasing Pavements by Adele.
Actually when I heard this song, I didn’t recognize it. He completely recreated the melody and the song and made it his own. If he was on American Idol, he would win.
I have subscribed to his channel and I listen to every single word he sings. Great talent.
Check out his myspace and his site too.
I am always scouring the internet for new music and listening to other people’s renditions of songs. Quite a few months ago I did a search on Youtube for female singers and someone had a best of video posted. One of those singers on the compilation video that stood out well above the rest was named phatfffat. The name alone was enough would turn most people off, but had you listened without see the name, you would have done what I did, stopped what you were doing, rewind the video and play it over and over and over.
I found the singers personal Youtube sight: http://youtube.com/user/phatfffat
Apparently, I wasn’t the only person listen to her on a regular basis because shortly after I subscribed to her, she was signed to So So Def right here in Atlanta Georgia. Let me first say that I was one of her first subscribers and one of her biggest fans. I know talent when I hear it and judging from the amount of video views that she is getting, a minimum of 80,000 views for pre-signed to So So Def videos to over half a million views for some, people love you. Good luck Dondria Nicole, I hope everything goes well.
For those of you interested in more of her stuff, check out her Youtube page (she has over 27 videos to choose from) and her myspace.
Here is the video that made me recognize the talent that she possess.
